Creationism (of Sock Puppets and Young Disciples)

22 06 2007

Here’s a beauty — no really! — posting as janicetwin over at sam’s, who seems to have gotten voice to go with the rest of her GL-awakened online self just yesterday.

One of janicetwin’s first fave posts ever is the ironically headed, GL-authored,“Choose Wisely: the Internet is a Dangerous Place.”

gl-sock-puppet-photo.jpg

Her new “acquaintance” who she never met hanging around GL’s place, or so the story we’re being offered goes, is Penelope T Rax, poor woman, still has no online identity, never said one word anywhere according to Google, until s/he miraculously and immaculately popped up to chat with sam and the hot young blonde, about rogue women like Bonnie Parker, homeschooling and American public education, oh — and as always, the deep and often misunderstood ways and wisdom of GL.

WOW!!
Ms. JJ are you always such a bitter and paranoid person??!! I just tracked this post from your link, and believe me, you are confirming everything that the public school kids are snickering at, if you are indeed a homeschooler. I resent in the least your snide comments about me and my identity! Are you always so demeaning of people you have never met?
I just met your issues at gregladen.com, and I am certain, from your first comment to this one, you have shown an abject hostility, not only towards me, who is new to this blogging thing, but also to people in general.

I am offended in the least, and mystified as to why you are now dragging me into your mucky issues, whatever they are. Please calm, yourself, or at least examine how you have referenced me in thuis post.
I am sorely disappointed. Howver, I will read a bit through your blog(sigh) just to try to get to the bottom of your generally cruel commenting. Do you do this everywhere?

I was hoping Penelope could explain her last entry . . . but she’s been busy I guess and hasn’t had time to answer my question about why she thinks it’s OK for her kids to learn to tolerate harassing homosexuals and homeschoolers in public school because they will outgrow it and it’s all part of socialization anyway.

Anyway, poor GL. He really has a problem. In the article above he finds some ps teacher who makes an ass of himself and embarrasses a classroom full of kids and he thinks that must happen all the time at home. He really has absolutely no idea what he is talking about when it comes to homeschooling. Just no clue. And yet he keeps droning on. I hope there isn’t anyone in any position to implement any of his brilliant fixes for hsing who is actually taking him seriously. If we ever find out what his suggestions actually are. . .

OTOH, he does have beautiful friends. 🙂

Actually “she” (who has never posted ANYWHERE before today, no kidding!) just posted here (and sam’s, and GL’s etc etc) to tell me what a prince GL is, plug his blog AGAIN and to question whether I am even human, much less a real-live homeschooler. Oh, and she is mystified as to why *I* am dragging *her* into my “mucky issues whatever they are” — no mention of who she actually is, why she went to sam’s for her Internet-wide debut and struck up a dishy homeschool chat about her kids and their teachers, with a single (childless?) European model who knows not thing one about homeschooling (or kids?) — and suddenly her own English is sounding broken, maybe she feels janicetwin’s pain even as complete strangers?
I get to choose as an individual (well, with Nance because we trust each other after all these years and like to figure stuff out together) whether to woolly up the blog with sock puppets or not — I’m thinkin’ not, Nance but let me know . . .

Well, I am posting back and forth with P at Sam’s and that’s probably enough for now.

Let’s see what other mischief we can get up to. 🙂

On the home front here, we are going to be unusually busy as we have our delightful one-year-old nephew visiting! Hurray! But that doesn’t leave much time for blogging. . . ah, well, I imagine the internet will manage without me for a few hours. 🙂

From what JJ has said and looking at our own schedule, it seems we may need a vacation to recover from what should be our quiet, lazy summers. All good stuff but busy, busy.

More later. . . sometime or other. . . 🙂

We were looking at some old home movies yesterday, the kids and I — in this reality Young Son was one, with a headful of blond ringlets and a little black cowboy hat. We had a great time (of course the videos didn’t wake me up last night for a drink of water and another story!)

OK – the first comment is the one from PT Rax we mention above — what swayed me to let it stand was Dawn who in another comment thread notes her increasing frustration with PT Rax being praised and thanked by GL as “s/he” stirs the pot . . .

Hello. I was recently made aware of this post, so thank you for your comments. However, I am miffed–entirely incensed actually–at the general tone of your discussions.

Again, I am actually quite put off by all of this mean language, and like I said above, kind of paranoid demeanor here. Is this the homeschool trend? I really would not like to believe in my heart of hearts that this is anything more than really bored people trying to drum up interest in their lives, and I kind of feel sorry about that.

To Nance, when you say “why she thinks it’s OK for her kids to learn to tolerate harassing homosexuals and homeschoolers in public school”, I can only say I almost don’t want to dignify that with an answer. It is so accusatory, and not genuine in its spirit.
If you want to blame me for what my children choose to find funny, wel go ahead, but I always believe they have open minds andf hearts. Kids are kids.

But if homosexuality is something they laugh at, go blame Will and Grace, who spend the brunt of their time laughing at heterosexuals on national tv. To the very best of my knowledge, my kids have never harrassed homeschoolers
( much less know any that I know of) and I resent your implications. It is exactly that accusatory and not to well thought out kind of mean-ness thatI am noting here and elsewhere. I really don’t know what to say! I can say that I read the news, and so do they, and that I know thatmany religious fundamentalist movements, and the opposite reactionary movements homeschool.

But if this is the general tone of homeschoolers, I guess maybe I should give my kids permission, and even laugh with them, because even my kids are not so generally mean or paranoid about others! LIke I said above, I had NO IDEA what a maelstrom I was being drawn into here, with such mean and unfounded rhetoric! I am almost sorry I came here, but as I also noted earlier, I take it personally when people ( the blog owner, who links thos post to other sites) un neccessarily demaens and derides me and my character!

Nance, I never said it is OK to laugh at anyone! So your comment is off the mark in the least, and quite uncalled for. But as I am learning on these blogs ( by the way JJ I do post elsewhere, but as you know the internet is an unsafe place to post personal data, like MY NAME. What ARE you thinking?) I comment elsewhere in other names. My dating site ( do you want my name their JJ?) is one name my technology password is another ( JJ you seem to be following me around, and tracking my movements…do you want my passwords too??) but really, I think I am on the wrong blogs, and that whgoever you are is kind of making me feel uncomfortable.

OK. I get it. I just read JJ’s comment above about “Dawn”. Yup. You guys are kind of in it together whoever you are. Dawn was over at Greg Ladens site and was seemingly “offended” by me asking him to look at this blog and notice how mean they had been, and how generaly distrustful. Yuppers, I get it now. Sorry I wasted the time.
But while your at it JJ maybe ask your friend “Dawn” for her social security number ( the “mark of the beast” and “satans numerology” with you guys, right?) and some other obscure and unimportant personal data!

And: “as “s/he”” stirs the pot? A Coven now? What are you? It/them? You are a meanie and I don’t think I like this anymore…bad touch;-(

That was janicetwin’s name and dating site, not anything to do with some newbie calling herself Penelope T Rax — oops. Kinda spoils the illusions for both socks to be on the same foot . . .

Me:
Oh, but that is just it. I don’t blame your children at all. They only know what they have been taught. Very carefully taught, as the song goes.

I am genuinely disappointed that I even need to explain how this cavalier tolerance of intolerance is offensive to all of the categories of people you mentioned in your original post.

As hsers, we hear conflicting stories about ps. We hear that it is too PC and rigid and just plain dumb (thinking of some zero tolerance cases here) and we also hear that our kids are not “socialized” sufficiently (which a very wise poster wrote recently means nothing more or less than having experienced ps to the ps-for-all folks).

Now, I’ve got this additional input from your neck of the woods that cruelty is expected and tolerated with a “boys will be boys” shrug.

Altogether, none of this is making me want to rush to the nearest ps.

JJ – if you have the original comment email from PTR you can cross reference the IP address to the ISP, and maybe even a physical location. Could provide a clue if by chance the posts are coming from MN.

Thanks Chris for the thought. I forgot you know all this tech stuff. 🙂

Nance and I actually did that once (with a tech expert, not us personally), back in the elist days when one homeschool mom from VA hit our parent-directed education yahoo list with seven different identities all telling us how evil PS and charters schools were, how mean and rude we were, writing people offlist to poison the well against us by name, etc.

But at least one of those was a real-life homeschooler! So it was sort of in the family.

OTOH, a lot of hsers figured we were the bad guys. We had the evidence, she had a incredibly lame explanation but the “right” politics. So I guess that is GL’s approach now.
Rationalize anything from anybody that serves his side or cause and attack whoever gets in the way. Very Clintonian now that I think of it, hmmm, anybody seen Hillary and Penelope T Rax in the same room? 🙂

The funniest — and completely tasteless, so you’ve been warned 🙂 — take on the new creationist museum that I have seen:
