Limbaugh Calls First Black President a Giant Alien Cockroach

22 05 2009

I swear. On his radio show this afternoon.
He likened our elegant, charming, authentically American (and black) president to the giant alien cockroach here to wipe humankind off the face of the earth, in the movie “Men in Black.”

FavD and I both heard his little um, riff, live, and stared at each other. We couldn’t believe he’d said it much less manage to explain in any way however far-fetched WHY he would say it.

Is it possible his deafness isn’t just aural now but increasingly mental — that he’s literally losing his faculties, in some creepy Michael Jackson-Elvis Presley public slide into senility if not madness?

Sat am — I had Googled yesterday before posting but couldn’t find any mention of it, was glad to have FavD as my witness! But this morning, I found the mediamatters link and they used exactly the same phrase I did: Giant Alien Cockroach! Ha, I’ve still got my old nose for news! 😉

Hour 3: Rush Compares Obama To Giant Alien Cockroach From Men In Black —
So he’s the big cockroach and he’s going to make sure these little cockroaches don’t get stomped on and don’t get avenged, and that’s why he’s going to nationalize California.

I started to wonder if there was cockroachian precedent, and maybe this was Limbaugh’s cockroachian payback? I couldn’t picture Obama calling anyone such names but figured I’d look.

Found this on a news blog from late January, dunno what it means except that apparently conservatives like this word, defend its use as accurate when applied to Dems, and deny it is racist or offensive:

T C Morgan | December 12, 2008 4:05 PM
“FYI: It’s news to me that the term “cockroach” is a racist term. Perhaps, it would help to understand how I use the term. Simply put, a cockroach is: “a filthy bug that crawls out from under a rock and scurries away when the light is turned on.” Now, I ask you, isn’t that a perfect description of most Dems?

Urban Dictionary online lists 22 definitions of the word. Am I suppose to know them all? Kind of partial to definition number one however: “vile little crawling, flying, swimming b*&%$ds who have come from Satan.” Kinda fits!”

Then I found a townhall column from last August by Limbaugh’s lawyer brother — maybe someone called HIM a cockroach so this is payback for that, in Rush’s mind?

Again, cockroach was in the comments responding to this column but again no, it was being used by a conservative against “libby-leftists” as not good enough to be rats, because rats are at least mammals and nurture their young.

So there is indeed cockroachian precedent, but so far it’s looking like it’s under the conservative rock.

Amazing. DH is hoping this will alienate some of L’s listeners in its crazy crudity. We’ll see. . .

*sigh* I have to admit that I heard the reference live, too. And, quite frankly, did not think it a racist comment. Then, again, I didn’t think the whole ‘teabagger’ thing was relevant to the event, either. I thought the analagy a good one. I’m pretty sure that doesn’t make me racist, though.

Never mind racist, what about an alien bug trying to destroy all humankind??

Kinda turns the argument about respecting all human life on its head, don’t you think?

I didn’t hear it as racist. Just loathsome. And strange.

With Glenn Beck trying to out-crazy Rush, I guess he has to push the envelope even further to keep his audience happy.

Chris, I think you’re right, about the Right.

Well, I didn’t see the ‘taking over the world’ thing. I DID see the analogy as President Obama having to bail out California to help out “the little guy”, which I think was the analogy Rush was trying to make. Unfortunately, I’m exhausted and leaving tomorrow for vacation (yay!), so I can’t really go in depth. Sorry.

Well, the little guys were alien cockroaches too in his analogy, also the enemy and also not humans. I probably should have mentioned that.

But there will be new outrages to mull over when you get back. 🙂

Speaking of which, why wait? 😉

At least one Republican doesn’t think it’s OK to compare Nancy Pelosi to Pussy Galore.

More commentary on the Pussy Galore comparison:

How did the Republican Party get stuck in 1959?

Last year, the McCain campaign produced an ad that called Barack Obama “Dr. No,” because Obama was against offshore drilling. It was just a lucky accident that Dr. No was also a biracial communist murderer who fed white women to land crabs.

Now it’s laughable, apparently, that Nancy Pelosi – a woman! – thinks she’s entitled to an opinion about the CIA, and it’s just a coincidence that there’s a fictitious spy named Pussy Galore who’s a lesbian with a name that means vagina and wimp.

. . .but why are they still getting their slams from the swinging sixties?

. . . James Bond’s boss, M, has been a woman since 1995. She’s played by an actress named Judi Dench. It was in all the papers. Before that, another M and Bond worked for a woman prime minister named Margaret Thatcher for eleven years.

And [they’ve all been serving a female regent] named Queen Elizabeth II — on her secret service, you might say — for 56 years, since the coronation and the publication of the first Bond book, Casino Royale, three months apart, in 1953.

Apparently, sometime after the last time anyone in the Republican Party got out of the house.

Because, …they are just stuck in the 60’s period..in a time when women were still fighting for some semblance of rights and respect, when men ruled by beating their chests, and spies were still the stuff of cold war movies and we liked the idea that we had our own cadre of them to fight the evil Russians.

And now they’re just stuck…in their own goo and lunancy, and insane thinking that says we must torture our enemies, fight to the death any attempt to have a reasonable conversation, and sure that America is selling its soul to the devil.

They…(the Limbaughs) are simply just afraid. Afraid of living, afraid of peace, afraid of differences, afraid of trying, afraid of losing their supremacy in the world..and it’s just time…for white males to concede defeat and join the rest of us in coming to terms with our problems, instead of going down and taking decent white hardworking men with them in their slander and their pitiful take on my world. A world where pompous asses like Rush Limbaugh no longer exist!! And Dianne Rehms rules the airwaves! ..ooohh..I like that! 🙂

Betty, your words are always juicy, ripe for further conversation! Stuck in their own goo and lunacy?? 😉

We listen to Limbaugh almost daily to keep up with what he’s saying, which you more wisely seem not to do, or else you’d likely know his insider lingo and you’d call his brethren what he dubbed them — “dittoheads.”

And the idea of Dittoheads and Dianes facing off in a virtual battle of the airwaves made me smile, both of them even older than I am, both so white, each having faced down major physical challenges to retain radio ruling rights and yes, imperious in their personal but conflicting power of story . . .

26 05 2009
JJ

OOH – and the dittoheads aren’t gonna like this!

Wonder which will upset them most, the Pussy Galore thing or the alien cockroach thing, the bipartisan thing, the urban thing, the intellectual thing? The fact that she’s got more experience than any SCOTUS justice confirmed in Dick Cheney’s lifetime?

No, the deal-breaker that makes her unacceptable could be age. She’s only 54, a generation younger than Souter so she’ll likely outlast their own sharply conservative appointees, even the Boy Chief Justice.

As for me, sigh, if she turns out to be yet another Catholic — her high school in the Bronx was named for some Cardinal or other — I’ll have very little patience with the diversity rhetoric as we pad the majority of the Court even further for the Vatican.

O’Donnell seized on the word “ploy,” using it to charge Limbaugh with a calculated effort to wield the charge of racism. He also highlighted Limbaugh complaining about having been called a racist for 23 years. To O’Donnell, there was a very good reason that such criticisms have dogged Limbaugh.

“In a country with a long painful and ugly history…you would think that Rush Limbaugh could comprehend why some of the things he has said over the years might offend the racial sensibilities of some reasonable people,” he said. “Rush Limbaugh can remember black children being killed in churches by the Ku Klux Klan during his lifetime.”

He then played a series of racially charged clips from the past few years of Limbaugh’s radio show. There were many to choose from (Limbaugh certainly has made many controversial statements in his time).

O’Donnell concluded by saying that Limbaugh has earned his considerable living off of telling lies and trafficking in “pure hatred.”

Rush limbaugh was present on a lot of radios in the military. And I unfortunately got to listen to his diatribes against women, ethnic groups and anyone else whom he deemed as failing to conform.

Having heard him tell a woman that he thought was Black, to take the Bone out of her nose because he can’t understand her—and a lot more in that vein, it is hard not to hear just about everything he says as being racist or sexist or bigoted in general. He after all sets the tone.

It’s made him very, very rich and with no responsibility for what he’s wrought . . .

Even if he were forced to take responsibility, his sort of logic dictates that he play the wounded martyr.

I have encountered his kind more often than I care to, and they often have an umistakeable pattern of behavior.

First it’s establish this twisted idea that freedom excuses all behavior.
Secondly pick the most vulnerable members of society for verbal attacks
When someone resists or confronts, whine about the politically correct naziis that are trying to control thought and speech through mob-emotional bullying.

Then let fly with every conceivable stereotype on can dig up and support it with any sort of spurious news or questionable paper one can find.

Rinse and repeat.
